18 Coventry Council House
The construction of this beautiful Council House was interrupted by the First World War and finally completed in 1920. It contains many of the city council’s offices and the Council Chamber where the city councillors meet to conduct their business.
The Lord Mayor greets foreign dignitaries in the Lord Mayor’s parlour. Coventry Lord Mayor’s Committee for Peace and Reconciliation meet in the Council House, as do Coventry Association for International Friendship.
The recently completed panels of the Godiva Tapestry marking periods of war and peace during the history of the city is on display in the lower ground floor. The display on the upper floor contains tokens of peace sent from some of the city’s 26 twinned cities.
