16 Twin Cities Plinth
On 6 June 1944, a Stalingrad Friendship society was formed in Coventry and this is often taken as the first example of Coventry’s city twinning, though the official twinning came seven years later. Stalingrad later changed its name to Volgograd.
Twin cities, also called sister cities or twin towns, are two towns or cities often in different countries that form a relationship for the purpose of promoting cultural and commercial ties.
Coventry now has 26 twin towns and cities around the world and the links between them are promoted by the Association of International Friendship.
This plinth is engraved with their names, directions and distances from Coventry.
